"Volcanoes in silence"

La Garrotxa is extraodinary geoecological situation demands to us a highly developed sense of responsibility resulting that unrestrained development of mass-tourism is out of question. Nevertheless, the region offers abroad variety of possible activities for all kinds of visitors, pupils, adults and the elder generation.

The suggested routes as well as the means of transportation permit to visit the natural park without damaging its landscape.

We believe to have found a healthy balance between tourism and environment conservation in order to promote a natural area without harming its delicate ecosystems.

Following these intentions we find it convenient to offer the possibility to spend the night above thousands of years of geological history in wooden houses situated between the volcanic cones of Santa Margarida and Croscat and in two kilometres distance to the medieval village of Santa Pau.

Excursion in carriage

In an idyllic landscape amidst the lavafields of the volcano Croscat.

We invite you to a one hour tour through one of the most visited beechforests of the Iberian peninsula: La Fageda d'en Jordà.

The tour, realized with a horse-drawn carriage, will make you forget your surroundings. A unique sentiment of peace and silence will captivate you while you breath the clean air of this oustanding landscape.

Train-excursion to the volcano Croscat

The vulcanism is without doubt the most characteristic geographical feature of our landscape. The municipality of Santa Pau unites the most spectacular volcanic cones of the region: El Santa Margarida and El Croscat.

The second one, definitely the most emblematic, is considered by the scientists to have been formed in a single eruption 11.000 years ago, dispersing its ashes within a radius of 20 kilometres.

We invite you to an excursion in train to the most peculiar volcano of the zone: El Croscat allows to enter deep into the interior of a volcano. Its unique beauty reflects with intensity the violence of its former eruptions.

No other means of transport could be more convenient to enter into the heart of the volcano than the small train that resembles the ancient steamtrain that used to be so charismatic for our region.

For years El Croscat was exploited by the mining industry what allows us nowadays to observe its interior structure due to a giant cut that opens the way for our small train.

The train is quite an exact replication of the ancient steam train that ran between Olot and the province-capital Girona and turned with the years into an emblematic symbol of our region.

The train excursion takes approximately one hour. Meanwhile we inform you about the various volcanoes of the zone and their peculiarities. In the interior of the volcano we will stop twice to give you the opportunity to take a closer look at the volcanic structures.

The train has capacity for 60 persons. Information is provided by loudspeakers in every car and in all common languages.

The ecologic camping Lava is situated in the heart of the volcanic zone amidst the volcanic cones of Croscat, Santa Margarida, Rocanegra and Puig de Martinyà. This privileged location gives you the opportunity to spend the night above thousands of years of geological history.
